Closing the year 2017

And yet another year has come to an end…

Now that we’ve lived here for four years and the farm is more established, the focus this past year was on learning and sharing knowledge with the local community. Besides the many volunteers helping us out, there were three main events that took place:

The year started with three practicals as part of a Permaculture Design Course taught by Joshua Gomez. A group of about fifteen friends and locals joined in and together we learned about pruning, wastewater system management, foodforest creation and 18-days compost building.

In June, we hosted a holiday retreat, which was a pilot project that turned out to be a great success. ‘At your Own Pace’ (‘Op Eigen Toeren’) organised a program focused on resilience in the context of chronic fatigue. Diana and Paulien have planned another retreat for the coming year.

We also facilitated a summer school activity with the children of the ‘Centro de Estudos Mentes Brilhantes’, which turned out to be fun and interesting for the pupils, volunteers and ourselves. The children learned about permaculture skills and got their hands dirty in four workshops spread out over August, the hottest month of the year.

And now we are looking forward to hosting more of such events in the future that are in harmony with the micro ecosystem that the Quinta is turning into.

We are ready for 2018 and trust it will turn out to be as awesome as last year.

Wishing all of you happiness and well-being!

Liesbeth & Rob

  3. Hello Liesbeth,

I always enjoy getting news about your beautiful place. I hope you don’t mind me asking you if you have any villas or small hotels in your area or somewhere else in the Algarve that you would recommend. We are thinking about the summer holidays in Portugal! I appreciate your time and thank you!

    Warm regards, Marianne Thompson
